PROBLEM
Drivers moving to or temporarily residing in new places require access to free parking. They often lack information about availability of parking spaces outside of public garages. Further, drivers require an understanding of their personal or rental vehicle’s size and ability to fit in available street parking spaces.

Paper Prototype

For the initial stage, I designed a paper prototype which outlined the process for registering a vehicle with the application, finding appropriate parking in public lots, on the street, or in a shared garage.
As I designed this application, I wanted to give the
Innovation
One difficulty user faced with the prototype was understanding how an app could account for the various sizes of cars and spots. So, the final version uses Kelly Blue Book measurements based on the users’ registered vehicle in tandem with the image a user takes of the intended parking spot and their thumb (which is approximately an inch from knuckle to the end), then calculates the size based on those measurements.
Digital Prototype

For the digital prototype, I decided to introduce a dark-blue-and-orange color scheme. The blue provided users with a trustworthy experience, while the orange conveyed parking-on-a-budget. This app is geared towards those looking to park in a public or unregulated space, so these two colors match the intended experience.
OUTCOME
The final design incorporates more than the initial four screens. It takes the users through the process of using the app in-device after the initial setup.
